Messiah Lutheran offers Sunday School instruction for children from pre-K through 8th grade. Sunday School takes place Sundays from September through June. It begins at the regular 9am church service, then moves to the church basement for group instruction by our dedicated staff of teachers. This is a wonderful way for your children to participate in the church and to learn what they will need for their First Communion and eventually Confirmation. Enrollment forms can be found here.
Pre-K (ages 3 and 4) are introduced to Sunday School through playful exploration of the ways in which they are beloved children of God, utilizing Bible storytelling, arts and crafts, and social sharing, forming the building blocks for an early experience in Christian community.
Kindergarten-3rd Grade (ages 5-8) utilizes Bible storytelling, symbolism, arts and crafts, discussion and socializing to build their understanding of their faith. Groups are broken down by age, generally two grades per group.
Grades 4-5 (ages 9-10) will focus on the meaning of Communion, spending time learning about the Eucharist, receiving their first communion in a special service generally in 5th grade. In addition, this age group will begin Bible study, Church history, and Christian contemplative practices.
Grades 6-8 (ages 11-13) At the conclusion of this instruction, young persons traditionally make a public profession of their faith in a public ceremony in early summer of 8th grade. Students attend additional weekly week-day classes during 7th and 8th grades to prepare them to make this important decision in their lives.
